RetouchingRetouching in its simplest form means to modify an original photograph or image. More specifically, it usually means to to correct or improve the image or the subjects in the image. In the example below, the original image has lots of problems, but we wanted to capture the bride's beautiful smile on her wedding day. The flower on the wall and the bridesmaid sitting next to the bride are distracting, as well as, the centerpiece in the foreground. The first step in the retouching process was to crop the image to compose the image. The second step removed the background and replaced it with something more neutral. The final step included more than a half dozen enhancements. The shine was removed from the bride's forehead, shadows were removed from under her eyes, some of the blemishes were removed from her chin, and the whites of her eyes and her teeth were brightened. Her eye color was adjusted to bring out more blue. Finally, we modified the color and contrast, and sharpened the image.
